Manny Pacquio for President on 2022

Congressman and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has hinted that he will run for Philippine president after boxing retirement.  However on 2016 Presidential Election, Pacquio will only be 37 and according to the Philippine Constitution you have to reach a minimum age of 40 to run for the position. Therefore if Pacquiao will retired anytime soon he still need to wait for 2022 to run for Presidency, he will be 43 by then.

Earlier, MalacaƱang has reacted to Pacquiao’s plan.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda reportedly said the 34-year-old boxer is free to run, but has to meet the minimum age requirement to qualify as presidential candidate. A Filipino citizen must be at least 40 years old and above in order to serve as president, as mandated under Article 7, Section 2 of the Philippine Constitution. Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978.

Meanwhile, Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao on Tuesday clarified on GMA News that he has no concrete plan to run for President in the near future.

In a press statement, Pacquiao said his thoughts on the presidency "are not indicative of any immediate or concrete plans but are merely aspirational."

However, he said "serving in a higher elective post rests on the will of God and the call of the Filipino people."

AFP reports:
Philippine boxing great Manny Pacquiao is harboring thoughts of running for president in his beloved homeland when he finally hangs up his gloves, he revealed to AFP in an exclusive interview.
Giving his strongest hint yet that he will push to the top of the political tree when he finally retires from the ring, the “Pacman” - a hero and congressman in his home country - admitted he had considered the presidency of the 95 million-strong nation.
When pressed on whether he had thought about shooting for the top job, the softly-spoken 34-year-old replied “Yes”.
Drawing parallels between his pugilism and politics careers, the former world champion in eight weight divisions said: “When I started boxing, of course I was planning, you know and thinking about getting to become a champion. So when I enter politics it’s the same thing.
“But, you know, it’s far away,” he said, adding: “It’s God’s will.”
