A driven central defender, Jose Maria Gimenez is hoping to build on success at the U-20 FIFA World Cup in 2013 by emerging at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
On 25 April 2013 it was confirmed that Giménez had signed for 1 mil. euros with Atlético Madrid of the Spanish La Liga in which he will join the club in the pre-season of the 2013–14 season.[2]
On 14 September Giménez made his Atleti – and La Liga – debut, starting in a 4–2 home win over UD Almería.
