Triathlete Claire Adorna delivers PH's first gold and the second Gold MEdal was delivered by another Pinoy Thriatlete, Nokko Huelgas.

Claire Adorna clinched the first gold medal and Kim Manrobang completed a 1-2 finish in women’s triathlon for Team Philippines as Singapore continued to throw its weight around and keep its distance from atop the medal tally on Saturday in the 28th Southeast Asian Games.




Adorna, only 21 but already grizzled from a seventh-place finish in the Incheon Asian Games in 2014 and a three-month Spartan training overseas, clocked two hours, 13 minutes and eight seconds in delivering the gold medal that Team Philippines hopes to be that “trigger” for a barrage of mints to come early in the Games Singapore is hosting for the first time since 1993.


Meanwhile, Triathlon produced a second gold medal for the Philippines after Nikko Huelgas ruled the the men’s triathlon with an overall time of 2:04:32, over a minute ahead of his competition.

Huelgas, who came in No. 4 in the swim leg, almost a minute and a half behind early leader Wuthiwatt Hemet of Thailand, held strong in the bike race before overtaking the lead in the run all the way for a golden finish.

The Philippines improved to 2 golds, 6 silvers and eight bronzes in the medal standings.
