The Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) may declare lawyer Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III as the winning 12th senator in the 2007 elections on Thursday, an official of the tribunal said yesterday.
Pimentel, on the other hand, said he would take his oath as a senator in Mati City in Davao Oriental where he got the highest votes during the 2007 elections.
Davao Oriental Gov. Corazon Malanyaon, a party mate of Pimentel in the PDP-Laban, is spearheading the preparations for oath taking in Mati City.
Last week Amidst electoral protest and controversy, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, resign from hist post. Zubiri’s victory in the 2007 elections is being contested by Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, who ranked 13th in the 2007 senatorial elections with 10,987,347 votes. Zubiri scraped through at 12th with 11,005,866 votes.
Last week as well, we have made a Poll regarding Former Senator Miguel Zubiri's resignation and here's the Poll results. The respondents said that 'It is about time for him to resign' with 42.11% of the total votes.
