Bagyong Pedring Update- September 25

Tropical cyclone “Pedring" (international code name Nesat) intensified slightly and accelerated Sunday, with state weather forecasters indicating it may intensify into a typhoon before making landfall in Northern Luzon later this week.

At 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "PEDRING" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 730 km East Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (15.1°N, 131.7°E) with maximum winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is forecast to move West at 22 kph.

Forecast:
The whole country will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Moderate to strong winds coming from the Southwest to South will prevail over Luzon and coming from the Southwest to West over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere winds will be moderate blowing from Southwest to West with moderate seas.

In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said Pedring was about 460 km east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

At least nine areas were placed under storm signals - one of them under Signal No. 2 - as Tropical Storm Pedring (Nesat) intensified further and accelerated towards he Isabela-Auroral area Sunday afternoon.

Placed under Storm Signal No. 2 was Catanduanes. Areas under Storm Signal No. 1 were:

  • Camarines Norte
  • Albay
  • Burias Island
  • Sorsogon
  • Quezon
  • Polillo Island
  • Aurora
