Miss Angola used false documents?

MANILA, Philippines — Controversy hounds the 2011 Miss Universe pageant after reports claimed the winner, Miss Angola, used false documents to join the contest.

A news article in the Daily Mail, a newspaper in London, dated Sept. 16, 2011, reported that the newly crowned Miss Universe Leila Lopes had used fake documents to get into the pageant.

The Daily Mail said a man identified as Charles Mukano allegedly helped Lopes to join the Miss Angola UK, a beauty contest for Angolan women staying in London, “despite her living in Angola.’’

An Argentine news source reported that Mukano organized the beauty contest that Lopes won. The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) told the AOL Latino that they do not know Mukano. It said the organizer of the Miss Angola pageant is Renato Guttler.

But another report claimed that Mukano allegedly obtained false documents to prove that Lopes is a business student in Britain. The MUO has denied the allegations.
