RESULTS:

China routed the Philippines, 3-1/2-1/2, and knocked down the Filipinos from a tie for second to join a logjam for eighth place at the ninth round of the 40th Istanbul Chess Olympiad Thursday night, Manila time.

With 13 match points, the Philippines will play Southeast Asian rival Vietnam in Friday night’s 10th round, the penultimate before the Olympiad takes a day off Saturday. The final round will be played Sunday afternoon, Manila time.

The Philippines must win the last two rounds to finish among the top 10 and match its best performance of a tie for seventh in the 1988 Olympiad. A draw will make that goal problematic. source: AKTV
