Filipinos warned against False Job Hiring in Cyprus

Job seeking Pinoy are warned against False Job Hiring in Cyprus especially those currently working in Hongkong.

A January 8, 2013, press release from the Department of Foreign Affairs

The Philippine Consulate General would like to reiterate its warning to the public to be cautious in dealing with recruitment agencies in Hong Kong for jobs in third country destinations such as Cyprus.

On December 6, the Consulate issued a warning to Filipino nationals to exercise caution and due diligence in dealing with recruiters and employment agencies in Hong Kong and the Philippines who offer work placement or jobs in other countries of destination such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Czech Republic, and other European countries.

The same advisory advised the public to review the matrix of labor market opportunities for several destination countries in the Philippine Consulate General’s website www.philcongen-hk.com and ensure, at the minimum, that their prospective work offers in destination countries must be verified by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and authenticated by the relevant Philippine Embassy or Consulate.

The Consulate has received reports that a certain agency continues to recruit Filipino nationals in Hong Kong and the Philippines for fictitious jobs in Cyprus and other third country destinations.

According to Labor Attaché Romulo Salud of POLO, no job orders for Filipino workers have been issued for Hong Kong-based employment agencies as all deployments are processed through the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in Manila.

The Consulate has assisted some of the victims based in Hong Kong and is currently coordinating with the Philippine Consulate General in Macau and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila to assist any Filipino who may have been affected by the illegal recruitment activities of the same company.

Individuals who have relevant information on any recruitment agency processing workers for Cyprus is encouraged to consult with the Consulate’s Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Section and POLO-HK for guidance.
