Authorities reportedly said the victims died either of suffocation or stampede. Some witnesses claimed that the club’s bouncers, who were initially clueless of what was happening inside, tried to stop people from escaping inferno because they were concerned of the bills payments.
Initial investigation showed the nightclub’s fire extinguishers were not working and its “Exit” signs leading to the toilets caused confusion among fifty individuals who were trapped and died there.
There were reports that the fire started when the crowded nightclub’s ceiling, which was partly made of acoustic and soundproofing materials, caught fire after fireworks were set off while a band was performing.
