Watch Miss Universe First runner-up, Janine Tugonon's Homecoming in Bataan. The Philippines nearly had another Miss Universe. Miss Philippines Janine Mari Tugonon came close to breaking the country's decades-long drought for a Miss Universe title when she placed second in this year's pageant, held in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 19 (December 20-Manila Time).
First runner up: Philippines. Tugonon improved upon last year's second runner up placing of Shamcey Supsup. In the year previous that, Venus Raj was third runner up.
This is the seventh time in the history of the pageant that the home candidate won Miss Universe - and the sixth time for the USA to accomplish the feat.
