Huawei gaved cloud-based computer system to DepEd

The Department of Education (DepEd), through its Adopt-a-School program, has secured an P8 million donation from Chinese technology company Huawei. In a memorandum of agreement signing last Friday, the company demonstrated their Cloud Based Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) system, which will be installed at the DepEd central office first for testing.

The system consists of a cloud server with 50 terminal units composed only of monitor, keyboard, mouse, and adaptor. According to Huawei officials, the system saves energy while improving efficiency since the terminals do not need a CPU. They also claim it is an ideal platform to deliver learning modules to public schools.

“As we are about to finish addressing the backlogs, the Department is preparing for future needs of the educational system,” said Secretary of Education Armin A. Luistro. “Apart from the advantages this will provide the offices here; we will also study the system to maximize it for educational purposes.”
