Mamasapano Valedictorian- Invest in Education Not War

Norombai Utto a Valedictorian from Mamasapano tearfully pleads: Invest in education, not war! Class valedictorian Norombai Utto, 16, even wept in a speech where she urged for an end to the encounters since March 1 between the military and the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in the surroundings of Mamasapano and neighboring towns.

Meanwhile according to a comment from Apol Macaspac:

"War is not an investment. Insurgency is a consequence of poverty and breakdown in peace and order. The police and armed forces are intruments of national policy enshrined in the Constitution: 1. The protection of life, properties and sovereignty 2. The establishment of law and order 3. The maintenance of people's liberty

What is life in Mindanao if there is no law and order? What is the meaning of prosperity in Mindanao if there is no peace? What is education in Mindanao if the Datus prevent children from further schooling? What is effective governance in Mindanao if LGU officials continue to commit graft and corruption? What is freedom to the children of Mindanao if the MILF, BIFF, JIM and other armed groups continue to reign in communities?

The irony of the child's valedictory address is: the Muslim people call on the government to help address the breakdown in violence in Mindanao, and yet when the AFP and PNP are there to enforce law and order it is despised upon by the very same people who sought for assistance-simply because their clan members are the source of terror and Intra-community conflict. And yet, none of the elders took the time to explain before their children why....much more the activists-ridden OPAPP and peace panel members. Poor child...."
