How to Setup Elgato Game Capture HD60 on XBox One

Xbox One and Elgato Game Capture HD60 setup.

Elgato Game Capture HD60 connects to the Xbox One using HDMI. It can passthrough video to a TV set also using HDMI. An HDMI cable is included in the box.

Inputs and Outputs

Elgato Game Capture HD60 has two inputs, and two outputs:

HDMI In

This connects to a game console or other video source. Signals protected by HDCP can't be used.

Analog Audio In

This connects to an analog audio source, using an 3.5mm cable. This is audio line in, and not a microphone port.

USB Out

This sends the H.264 encoded video to your computer via USB 2.0. The signal is delayed by a few seconds from live. The USB cable also powers the Elgato Game Capture HD60 hardware.

HDMI Out

This sends the HDMI signal in real time to a TV or display, so you can play your game normally.

Xbox One: Audio

In the HDMI audio options, the Xbox One should be set to use Stereo uncompressed audio.

Xbox One: General HDMI Issues

The Xbox One has HDMI output.

Depending on what's on screen, content may be encrypted with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). In that case, Elgato Game Capture HD60 will not be able to capture that content via HDMI.

If the output is not encrypted, like gameplay, then Elgato Game Capture HD60 should be able to capture content, much like it does with the Xbox 360.

The Xbox One uses HDCP protection when watching a purchased movie, or when using streaming services like Netflix. Therefore, Elgato Game Capture HD60 won't be able to capture that content.

For example, Netflix will not play video if Elgato Game Capture HD60 is attached. You can try to use Netflix full screen, or snapped to the right side of the screen, but video won't play either way. This is due to HDCP.

The Xbox One also has HDMI input.

The Xbox One can accept passthrough video from a variety of sources. HDCP protection still applies to that video.

• If the HDMI input attached to the Xbox One has HDCP protection, it will stay protected when it exits the Xbox One.

• If the HDMI input attached to the Xbox One does not have HDCP protection, it will not have HDCP when it exits theXbox One.

Video from a cable box or satellite receiver, send over HDMI, usually has HDCP protection. That video would not play when Elgato Game Capture HD60 is connected, and would most likely have a black screen.

Troubleshooting - No Image Appears On The TV
If your TV only supports 1080i or 720p, and not 1080p, then you may not get a video image when Elgato Game Capture HD60 is first connected. The video may still appear in the software, but not on your TV.

The solution would be to set your Xbox One to output video to 720p or 1080i - whatever format your TV can support.

Improving Performance

Elgato Game Capture HD software works well if your computer exceeds the basic System Requirements.

If your computer barely meets the minimum System Requirements, then performance may suffer, especially if you are trying to do a number of things at the same time.
