Definite air travel, established aircraft identification, and guaranteed air passenger safety and security are now within reach through the new Communications Navigation Surveillance / Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM).
From only three (3) air traffic radars covering only 30% of the Philippine airspace in 2016, an 10 additional satellite-based CNS/ATM will be turned over to DOTr-CAAP to enable 100% coverage of the PH airspace. President Rodrigo Duterte, together with DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, led the formal inauguration of the (CNS/ATM) Systems Development Project last January 16, 2018.
The CNS/ATM project was started in 2009, but due to delay in construction and other challenges, it did not hit its target completion in 2016. Upon Secretary Art Tugade’s assumption into office, he ordered the CAAP to fast-track the project.
