The Senate of the Philippines heralds its hundred-year legacy by building its new home — one that relives the great lessons of history, represents the dignity of this independent institution, and consecrates the values of a truly democratic legislature.

Bagong Senado sa Ika-2 Siglo, a vision of the Senate to build a permanent home since 2000, is now a reality unfolding before us.

In the 101 years since the Senate first held session, a total of seven historic edifices have served as its seat. Since May 1996, however, it has had to rent its “home” at the Government Service Insurance System complex in Pasay City.

The Senate Committee on Accounts has been assigned to pursue the relocation and oversee the eventual construction of the iconic, green, and resilient Senate Building.

As a first step to the fulfillment of this vision, the Senate entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) for the acquisition of a suitable site.

To pave the way for the building phase of this project, the BCDA rolls out a Conceptual Design Competition and invites technically-competent firms to participate in designing the new Senate building. The winning design is envisioned to be a national landmark that will usher Philippine Senate to its next 100 years.
