Philippines is number one for budget transparency in Asia

The Open Budget Index (OBI) score of the Philippines for the year 2017 is 67, making the country number one for budget transparency in Asia.

“The Department of Budget and Management will continue to work with the legislature, our constitutional bodies, and our citizens to further enhance budget openness in the public sector,” Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said.

The Open Budget Survey (OBS) is a biennial survey conducted by the International Budget Partnership (IBP) which assesses budget transparency based on the amount and timeliness of budget information governments made available to the public.

The Philippines also ranks #3 worldwide on public participation and 65 out of 100 on budget oversight.

The ranking would mean that the public is given moderate opportunities to engage in the budget process and they are provided with adequate budget oversight.
