How Can I Earn from my Grid-Tied Solar Panel System

Can I earn from my Grid-Tied Solar Panel System? How to earn with your Solar Panel System?

Our local power supply company support the use of renewable energy resources. Through Net-Metering, a program under RA 9513, you can install a renewable energy facility with a capacity of up to 100kW at your property. Any excess RE electricity produced will be exported to us and its corresponding value will be given as credits on your next bill.

In my home, a 7.7 KW Solar Panel System has been installed with fourteen solar panles. For the inverter, I have chosen, Solis brand since the system can be monitored through an Android app.

According to Meralco, renewable energy installations above 100kw are not covered by the Net Metering program, but fall under Zero Export (Own Use). However, customers are still required to inform us about such installations to ensure that the RE facility does not inadvertently leak energy back to the grid.

While you cannot convert the KWh that your Solar Power supplied with Meralco, they can give you a rebate of your power consumption equivalent to the power you supplied on their grid. Money saved is money earned.

Below is the sample  of Meralco's computation of Cost of Import Energy minus Export Compensation equals to Net Billed Amount.

When you enroll in Net Metering, your electricity provider will replace your current meter and install a bi-directional meter in your home. The bi-directional meter measures both the electricity you get from us (i.e. Import Energy) as well as the excess electricity produced by your solar installation that is exported to our grid (i.e. Export Energy).

Here are the key things to consider for any installation: Source: Meralco

  1. Know the right size.

Take note of the appliances that will be operating when sunlight is available. This will determine the amount of energy that you’ll need and the right installation size for your household. This ensures you spend the right amount on your installation, along with keeping your appliances and equipment running smoothly and safely.

  2. Check the best location for your installation.

Before you make your investment, check on your roof! Inspect the structure and position where your panels will be installed. Consider factors such as panel direction, panel angles, and inverter options – all of which affect the output and the efficiency of the solar PV system.

  3. Choose the right solar provider.

Choose a supplier who is reputable, with after-sales service, and knowledgeable in safety standards.
