Serena Williams captured her first tournament by capturing the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford by defeating Marion Bartoli 7-5, 6-1 who had beaten her in Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Williams ranked 169th in the world heading into the tournament is projected to rise into the top 80 when the WTA rankings are released on Monday.
