Fresh from a third place finish in the Jones Cup, Smart Gilas Pilipinas will compete in a pocket tournament in Doha on Aug. 24 to 30 where Lebanon, Syria and the host country Qatar will showcase new recruits in their lineups.
PBA MVP Jimmy Alapag and power forwards Ranidel De Ocampo and Kelly Williams of Talk ‘N Text, will join the Nationals since the the Governor's Cup 2011 Finals will be concluded until Sunday just in case Talk 'N Text and Petron Blaze reach game 7 of the the Final series.
The three-year program of Smart Gilas will end in the Fiba Asia Championship in Wuhan, China on Sept. 15 to 25, with the champion qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics. Where Philippine Team is in the same Group D together with the powerhouse China.

UPDATE: PHILIPPINE SMART GILAS PULLED OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT. The national team was supposed to grind it out in the four-nation Doha meet, which includes Lebanon, Syria and Qatar, this week but begged off since the TNT players couldn’t make it.
After pulling out of the pocket tournament in Qatar, Smart Gilas Pilipinas is aiming to put together a pair of tuneup games against Jordan and a couple more in China for the PBA stars to blend in before the Fiba Asia Championship.
