San Sebastian advances to meet San Beda in the Finals of the NCAA 87th Season for the 3rd straight year. NCAA Season 87 is the 2011–2012 season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) of the Philippines. The host school, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD), lead the opening ceremonies at the Araneta Coliseum on July 2, 2011. The men's basketball and the women's volleyball tournaments is being by ABS-CBN and Studio 23 for the twelfth consecutive season, while the men's basketball events is being simulcast on DZRJ-AM.

Calvin Abueva of San Sebastian officially claimed the Most Valuable Player award of the 87th NCAA men’s basketball season.
The 23-year-old Abueva emerged as the best player in the league after averaging 21.5 points, 13.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 20 games as he was given the plum during the awarding ceremonies just before Game 1 of the NCAA championship.
Joshua Nimes of Mapua took home the Rookie of the Year award while Almazan gained the Most Improved Player Award. Sangalang, meanwhile, annexed the Defensive Player of the Year award.
