Pinoy Pride 9 Live Update and Results

Donnie Nietes will appear for the second time in the boxing mega-series and will be fighting in his hometown once again. This time, however, it will be for the chance to obtain the WBO Light Flyweight title from Ramon “Principe” Garcia.

Nietes was a renowned Minimumweight world champion with a history of title defenses in enemy territory. Now, he is moving up on weight division and hoping to make history by becoming one of the few Filipino boxers who hold more than one world championship belt in different divisions.

Team Nietes mentioned to the press that he is asking for the boxing fans’ support since he is fighting not only for the Philippines, but especially for his home province of Negros Occidental.

Tickets are priced at PHP 3,000 for VIP 1st row, PHP 2,000 for VIP 2nd row, PHP 1,500 for VIP 3rd row, PHP 1,000 for VIP 4th row, Gold Seats at PHP 500, Lower Box at PHP 350, and Upper Box at PHP 150.

Merlito ‘Tiger’Sabillo gave the hometown fans an early reason to celebrate as he pressed and pounded Rodel Tejares Singwangcha for twelve rounds. Sabillo was relentless in his attack with a variety of brutal combinations. The scores – 116-110, 118-108, and 118-108 for Sabillo who wins the vacant OPBF 105 lb. division crown. Melvin Gumban dominated Richard Donaire who eventually retired on his stool due to cramps at the start of the 5th round. Gumban was declared winner by TKO. Jun Intor and Gilbert Garciano ended in a technical draw in the 2nd round after repeated clash of heads lead to deep cuts on Intor.
