September 11, 2012- Class Suspension in Philippines

Classes were suspended on September 11 in everal schools, colleges and universities in Metro Manila (NCR) due to floods caused by overnight downpour. According to weather bureau PAGASA, the heavy rains and thunderstorms were caused by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), where a low pressure area, spotted at 760 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur as of 6am, is embedded.

TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERT: Tropical depression "KAREN"

The ACTIVE LOW PRESSURE AREA (ALPA) East of Mindanao has developed into a Tropical Depression and was named "KAREN"

10AM today,the center of TD"KAREN" was estimated based on satellite and surface data @ 700km East of Tandag,Surigao Del Sur (9.0N,133.4E).

* Max sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and is forecast to move Northwest @7kph.
* Est. Rainfall is 10-20 mm/hr w/in the 300KM diameter of the TD
* "Karen" is expected to intensify w/in the next 6 - 12 hrs.
* TD Karen is still too far to affect any part of the country

FORECAST POSITIONS:
* Tomorrow Morning : 600 km East of Siargao Island by tomorrow morning.
* Thursday morning: 460 km East of Borongan, Eastern Samar
* Friday Morning: 390 km East of Virac, Catanduanes
