Mayon Volcano in Albay Philippines belched out black smoke on May 7, 2013 at around 8:00 in the morning. It reached about 3 kms high and still rising. No official report yet from PHIVOLCS Legazpi.
There is a 6-kilometer danger zone around Mayon. Some tour guides do not ask permission to hike from government.
OCD Bicol says there are around 20 mountain climbers on Mt Mayon. when phreatic explosion occured.
Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr. said there is no cause for panic as such "steam-driven explosions" can happen even when Mayon is at Alert Level 0.
