In billiards, Chezka Centeno upstaged fancied countryman Rubilen Amit, 7-5, to win the women’s 9-ball title—the second for the Philippines in the sport.
With those gold medals, the Philippines finally overtook Myanmar, which irritatingly occupied sixth spot ahead of the country on the medal tally board until the track athletes did their thing at the 50,000 seat track and field arena.
Stuart lived up to expectations and threw the hammer to a games record 65.63 meters, shattering the old standard of 62.23m held by defending champion Tanti Petchaiya of Thailand. Petchaiya could only settle for the silver with 62.18m while Malaysia’s Jackie Swiew Wong settled for the bronze with 61.18m.
