DLSU outside hitter, Angel Canino, converted to opposite hitter in ALAS Pilipinas is AVC Challenge Cup 2024 Best Opposite Spiker? Canino, with 17 and 22 points in the first two games of ALAS Pilipinas in AVC Cup against Australia and India has a good chance to become the Best Opposite Spiker of the event. Canino is thankful to ALAS setter and Team Captain Jia Morado de-Guzman for her smooth transition from Outside Hitter to Opposite Spiker. Jia and Angel (Ji-Angel or Ji-Gel) developed their chemistry inside the court in less than two weeks of preparation for the tournament. It is not only Angel who developed a good connection with Jia but the two middle blockers, Thea Gagate and Fifi Sharma, both a product of DLSU Volleyball Program as well.
The Philippine Team will face Iran on Saturday, May 25, 2024 and Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) on Sunday for their final game in the elimination round. ALAS Pilipinas has a good chance to top Group A as they are heavily favored to win their last two games. If the Philippines will manage to be the top-seeded team in Group A then chances are, they will face Kazahkstan in the semi-final round and the final against the defending champion, Vietnam.
