Meet Marestella Torres- Athletics-Long Jump- Pinoy Olympian 2012 London Olympics!

Marestella Torres (born 20 February 1981) is a Filipino long jumper.Torres finished fourth at the 2002 Asian Championships and won the silver medal at the 2005 Asian Championships. She also competed at the 2005 World Championships without reaching the final. She also participated in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. In 2009, she surprisingly won the 2009 Asian Championships with a leap of 6.51 metres.

Her personal best jump is 6.71 meters, achieved at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Palembang.

Torres wasn’t able to break her 6.71-meter national mark, which also qualified her to the London Games, but leaped to 6.58 on her sixth try as others bit her dust including triple jump winner and up-and-coming star Katherine Santos whose 6.19m on her third attempt earned her silver at the Perdices Sports Complex.

“There was really no competition here but it’s part of my preparation for the London,” said the 31-year-old Torres who is making her second Olympic stint after the 2008 Beijing. “I also want to gauge my fitness. I can say that I’m 80 percent ready for the Olympics.”
