Yao Ming was born to play basketball. His parents were former pros and Yao was double the size of the average Chinese baby. Yao led the Shanghai Sharks to a CBA championship, before Houston made him the No. 1 NBA draft pick in 2002.
He retired today, at age 30, as one of China's richest men. His business empire includes his former team, the Shanghai Sharks.

Yao insisted, however, it would be hard to leave the Rockets because of injury or a trade away.
"I have spent the best 10 years of my life playing and living (in Houston)," said the towering All-Star who has averaged 19.0 points and 9.2 rebounds in his NBA career. "That makes it much harder to bid farewell."
