In a landmark decision, the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) ruled that Pimentel, son of former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr., won over Juan Miguel Zubiri, who resigned as senator Wednesday last week.

The proclamation marked the first time the SET proclaimed a defeated candidate as the rightful winner of a Senate post.

Pimentel will take his oath of office at 10 a.m. at the Davao Oriental Provincial Capitol.

Gov. Corazon Malanyaon will be administering his oath. According to Governor Malanyaon, she advised former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri that she accepted to administering the oath taking since he's a good friend to Migs Zubiri as well.

Pimentel garnered the most votes during the 2007 elections in Mati. Pimentel said he did not even campaign in the area.
